Location: Remote/Hybrid (within +/- 2 hours CET; candidate must have an existing permit to live and work in the country they reside)

Contract: 1 year with the possibility for an extension by mutual consent

Position Summary

GRI is an independent NGO and standard-setter and over the last 26 years, our standards have created a global language used by organizations to provide transparency. At GRI we enable organizations to assess and report on the environmental, social and economic impacts of their activities. We also help build organizational capacity for sustainability reporting: from our Academy training courses to working with licensing partners to enable digital reporting with GRI’s standards. Together, the skills, capabilities, and data we create help build sustainable, long-term value. Working at GRI, you will be part of unlocking positive change in the world. 

We are seeking a Senior Manager to support GRI’s Policy Team in the work towards two specific outcomes:

  1.  Impact reporting is accepted by policy stakeholders around the world as part of the global baseline for sustainability reporting alongside and of equal importance as financial sustainability reporting. These engagements aim to create the regulatory space to promote the GRI Standards as the global standards for impact reporting into national legislation.

    1. Impact reporting is accepted by policy stakeholders around the world as a tool which can support legislation to make progress on specific topics where financial reporting is not relevant.

  2. The GRI Standards are recognized as THE global standards for the impact reporting part of the global baseline for sustainability reporting and are where possible adopted by jurisdictions. The activities related to this outcome aim to drive concrete references to the GRI Standards into national legislation and listing requirements.

The main purpose of this role is to support the efforts under outcome no.1 with a focus on responsible business conduct legislation and frameworks as well as those that cover environmental and human rights due diligence.

Responsibilities

Delivery

  • Manages engagements with national governments, multi-lateral organizations, and key mediating institutions related to the use of GRI Standards for reporting on RBC, Human rights, and due diligence.

Engagement

  • Manage the Government Advisory Group as a platform for regular exchanges with a global cross-section of policymakers on topics relevant to GRI policy outreach and maintain relations with the individual members.

  • Manage, in consultation with the Chief Policy Officer, the implementation (and further development) of grant-related programs and activities.

  • Manage relations with key institutional partners which can help implementation of the GRI's policy agenda on the topics within the responsibilities of the Senior manager.

  • Collaborate with the Communications department to ensure consistent messaging and proactive communications around focus activities.

  • Counsel the Chief Policy Officer and other parts of GRI on policy developments related to the topics within the responsibilities of the Senior manager.

  • Influence positions of jurisdictions, multilateral organizations, or mediating institutions through engagement in written public consultations.

  • Represent GRI at selected public events.

  • Represent GRI in policy working groups related to areas of expertise.



Work Experience

  • International expertise in engaging in ESG issues with policymakers and other influencers. EU experience will be considered an advantage.

  • Political experience and/or a degree in political science or law would be an advantage.

  • Experience with sustainability (ESG) reporting is an advantage.

  • Solid network and reputation in the topic area.

Knowledge and abilities

  • Willingness and flexibility to travel as required.

  • Demonstrated success in motivating, inspiring, and developing teams.

  • Proven track record in project management and organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal, diplomatic, and public relations skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Able to work in an international and multi-cultural setting.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment where change is ongoing.

  • Affinity with the mission GRI.
