Patient Advocacy Specialist – Europe

Based remotely in Europe

Illumina is looking for an experienced Patient Advocate to continue and expand our work with regional responsibility in Europe.

This role is remotely based within one of our European entities, ideally within France, Germany, Spain or the UK (other locations may be considered)

The Role

Reporting to the Global Head of Patient Advocacy, you will work closely together and have regional responsibility across the clinical segments of oncology, rare disease and reproductive health, you will play an active role in the design and execution of Illumina’s Patient advocacy strategy.

The core areas of responsibility for this position will include keeping abreast of developments in oncology, rare disease and reproductive health, strategy development, increasing our imprint by identifying and building key relationships with relevant patient organisations, and driving evidence generation and innovation around patient experience and the implementation of genomics in these segments.

You must be able to effectively anticipate, track and analyse the full implications of the patient journey that could impact Illumina’s mission, or operating environment in the broadest sense within region.

You will interact productively with the company’s cross-functional environment, working in close connection with other functions such as: Research and Development, Government Affairs, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Corporate Social Responsibility and Commercial Ops amongst others.

The Patient Advocacy Specialist must show a high level of understanding of the role that genomics can play within patient journeys and work proactively to implement localized strategy. You must be adaptable to new fast -moving  situations with a high level of energy and passion towards patient experience, genomics and its broad applications in routine healthcare.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the broader Global Patient Advocacy strategy by contributing to the development and execution of a patient advocacy strategy for your region
  • develop and maintain relationships with patient advocacy representatives, stakeholders and industry experts related to Illumina’s business
  • conduct best practice patient advocacy outreach, education and evidence generation programs that foster two-way flow of information
  • maintain and communicate an effective mapping and analysis of the broader landscape of clinical implementation of relevance to the Illumina mission in oncology, rare disease and reproductive health
  • create opportunities for stakeholder collaboration that contribute to the improved uptake of diagnostic sequencing in routine healthcare
  • serve as the “voice of the patient” to contribute to Illumina Medical Affairs strategy internally and externally
  • ensure effective representation of Illumina at key patient advocacy meetings, on working groups and advocacy associations

Key skills and experience requirements:

  • Extensive experience (6+ years) in patient advocacy and policy environment.
  • A good understanding of issues surrounding genomics will be considered an advantage.
  • Fluent in English. Fluency in French, German, Spanish, or another language would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with patient advocacy groups, professional associations and expert stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively with cross functional and leadership teams to achieve collective goals
  • Project management and reporting skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated awareness of the issues of diversity and inclusion
  • Confident personal presence, with skills in public speaking and experience managing and hosting live activities/programs
  • A self starter: Independent and self motivated, strategic and results-driven.
  • Exercises exceptional ethical judgment
  • Position will require significant travel

Key qualifications required:

  • Bachelor level degree or above
  • Educational Background in social sciences is preferred
